top_chef_logo_lgAfter yet another week-long hiatus, Top Chef All-Stars is back in action. I’d also like to point out that last night’s episode was significantly more enjoyable due to the fact that we didn’t have to suffer through any more of Marcel’s boasting, bitching or gang signs.

The guest judge for the Quickfire was one of the last people I’d ever expect to be guest starring on Top Chef: the fabulous host of Bravo’s The Fashion Show, Isaac Mizrahi! He challenged the chefs with created visually stunning, fashionable dishes. Yeah, that’s it. No tasting involved.

And some of the chefs, as we saw with Antonia, didn’t even cook anything! Throwing vegetables on a plate and calling it a tree — pssh! The least appetizing by far was Angelo’s that “look like a puke in a bag with an egg yolk in the middle,” as stated by Fabio last night on Twitter. I don’t think anyone else could have summed it up better.

Alas, Golden Boy Blais took the win with his freeze dried black ice cream and got himself some sweet immunity in the Elimination Challenge. But I’m with PPYKAG, it looked like a plate of cigarette ashes.

For the Elimination, the chefs were invited to cook at the very exclusive Italian restaurant Rao’s. They were divvied up into three teams of three, each team responsible for a different course and each team member cooking their own dish. Confusing, I know. The guest diners were the owners of Rao’s, Tom, Padma, Tony Bourdain (yes, he’s still with us) and actress Lorraine Bracco (another random choice).

In a nutshell, Jersey Mike though he was a favorite to win because apparently he Italian, Tiffany almost burned all of her polenta cakes (and the restaurant), Antonia cooked some basic mussels and garlic bread dish, Tre touted his amazing risotto cooking skills and then failed miserably, and Carla apparently makes good minestrone soup…for Wisconsin. There were also some confusing remarks and analogies uttered at the dinner table.
